Jul 1968 - VA-27 A-7A NK-601 recovers aboard USS Constellation, its pilot having expended the aircraft's rocket's and bombs. Two months later, on 14 September 1968, this aircraft was hit by flak during an attack near Vinh. The pilot, VA-27 CO CDR George Pappas, made an arrested landing at Da Nang, but the A-7 veered off the runway and was destroyed by the subsequent fire. Cdr. Pappas successfully ejected and landed nearby the blazing wreckage. (Image Source - US Navy)

Aug 27, 1968 - A shot of one of the first Royal Mace Corsair II jets in action off of Vietnam in 1968-69 aboard the USS Constellation CVA-64. NK-602 an A-7A of VA-27 is about to launch for a mission over North Vietnam armed with Mk 82 Snakeye 500 pound low drag bombs and a pair of AIM-9 Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. Another VA-27 A-7A can be seen waiting behind CAT 1. The black crosshair on the radome was used as a visual marker for the LSO to distinguish the A-7 from the F-8.rn(Image Source - US Navy)
